Tropical Wood Source

Lake Bayano is a water reservoir located in the eastern part of the province of Panama, it has 350 square kilometers created when the Bayano River was dammed in 1976 to create the hydroelectric plant of the same name.

Located 90 km from Panama City, 14 indigenous communities live on its shoreline that in 1996 created the Guna de Madungandi Region.

The lake is used by indigenous communities for tilapia fishing and they work in the extraction of the submerged logs that were left at the bottom of the lake when the water reservoir was created.

The recovery of submerged wood reduces the deforestation of our natural forests providing high quality sustainable products and at the same time directly supports the environment and local communities.
